| Robert James Black Robert James
Black Managing Director of National Springs and
Wire Products Pty. Ltd. was born into the family
General Cartage Contracting business of James
Black and Sons which was established in 1900.
In 1964 Robert decided to break with family tradition
and joined Industrial Springs in Kensington, Victoria,
who were manufacturers of springs and wire products.
The company's owner James Morley Collins become
Robert's mentor in life.
In 1973 the Collins family appointed Robert to
the position of General Manager.
In 1976 Robert proposed a strategic expansion
of the Industrial Springs business through the
acquisition of Apex Springs. When this did not
proceed, the owner of Apex Springs, Crofton Robert
Mudge, offered Robert a deal to take over the
company and pay it off out of the future profits.
Robert accepted the offer and took on the challenge
as proprietor of his own enterprise. |

As Apex Springs developed, it acquired Industrial
Springs in 1984, Specialised Springs in 1986 and
a substantial shareholding of Lloyd B Moss Springs
in 1988.
Robert and Lloyd decided that the business would
function more effectively and productively if
they were consolidated under one roof and in 1989
the new company of Aust-Group Springs Pty. Ltd.
was formed. A new manufacturing complex was constructed
on a 5 acre site in Campbellfield which is a suburb
approximately 25 kilometres north of the centre
of Melbourne.
In 1991 Aust-Group Springs acquired the Salter
Spring Division.
With divisions and affiliates now operating throughout
Australia,
Robert and Lloyd decided a name change was appropriate
to truly
reflect the present and future direction of this
100% owned Australian manufacturing group of companies
and hence National Springs and
Wire Products Pty. Ltd. was born.
